Picky Prospecting

The great thing about network marketing is that you decide who you want to work with. You can offer the opportunity to the kind of people you want to associate with.

One secret of my success is that I constantly recruit up. This means I look for people who I think would be better at this than me. I figure I’d rather be rejected by a millionaire than a guy without a job. I’d also prefer a yes from someone with a large circle of influence than a person who hasn’t yet learned how to network.

Here’s what I look for when seeking guests to look at the opportunity.

Servant Leadership — “Good leaders lead; great leaders serve.” I look for value-centered individuals who are willing to take on the responsibility to serve others to build an empowered community.

Authentic Leadership
— I pursue people who speak their truth and genuinely care about others. People who understand that leadership is about who you are, not who you say you are.

An Owner Mentality — if someone is intrigued by what we have, they need to be the kind of person who handles challenges and solves problems like the owner of a company.

A Motivator — I’m looking for people who know how to motivate and inspire people to action. People who take responsibility for a team and work well with other leaders.

Long-term Thinking — I’m not looking for someone who needs a quick hit of cash, but someone who wants a lifetime of residual income.

Willingness to Learn and Teach — The hardest part for most successful people is to drop their ego and learn a new industry. This type of marketing has many small subtleties that make an enormous difference. If you’re willing to learn and then have the patience to teach, I’m interested in you.

Business Experience — it’s not critical to your success, but more proven success someone has had in business the more likely they are to understand the importance of discipline, hard work and the results you can expect from that.

Personal Development Centered — I look for people who read, watch, listen and refer personal and professional development books, CDs, videos and seminars. I’m looking for leaders who are high-integrity, continuous learners.

Female Leadership — women are paid less than men in traditional business but in this industry they are paid equally. Both men and women earn millions in this industry and its the one place where only result matter — women are as equally successful as men. You don’t have to be Oprah or Hillary, just a woman who wants to make a difference and get paid very well for it. If you are a man, you’ll love that you can look at a woman and say, “yes, you can make it to the top” and believe it.

US-Based — this opportunity will be based in the US only for at least the first year. Other countries will be launched when they make the most financial sense.

Notice what is not on the list. I don’t care if you “Have Time” or “Have a lot of Money” or are a “Network Marketer”. I don’t care what degree you have, where you live or what country club you belong to. We have the systems, the product and the compensation plan if you have the attitude and integrity.

Does this kind of thinking get results?

With these requirements in mind I was able to attract Scott Reese, a two-time Teacher of the Year, and now a top earner with GeneWize and Chris Hunter, as successful businessman from Maryland. I went back to my old friends, Michael Carnevale, Eric Kurit and Keith O’Brien who all said yes and went to work. They have diverse backgrounds and have never had success in network marketing but are now among the top earners in the company. I enrolled 12 people in the first 60 days but these are the five went to work. I had no idea who would do it or who wouldn’t, I just did my best to find the best… and it worked out really well.

Be picky. You don’t want to recruit just anyone. You want the best. Expect it and it will be yours.

Makes so much sense – especially to anyone who has ever been in a real job and “stuck” with a co-worker from Down Under (no, I don’t mean Australia). How cool it is to be able to pick fun, successful people to team up with?!

  6. Jesus Leon says:

Great words my friend. Many times we just try to fill the seats and recruit whomever “wants” to join our business. We must all remember that we MUST recruit wisely and be in the right mindset to say “no” to someone which we know will not be right for us or our business.

  8. Hey Tom! I met you at the convention…I’m Sylvia Gay’s daughter. I live in Winter Park, and met someone who lived in Maitland doing the business. I noticed he worked for The Orlando coupon book & then received one in the mail the next day. I’m just curious as far as advertising if we have to get approval from anyone & would like to know if anyone in the area is having meetings.

So you want to come to my Grand Opening? :)

  9. rick martis says:

tom here is a cut and paste of what i wrote on your site yesterday
can we start educating everyone on the importance of compliance once in a while instead of always how to increase sales, so we can stop all these guys on Google and you tube from making outrageous claims abut $$$ etc, so we will not get shut down from the FTC?????

    rick martis:
This is an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity and i also want to thank everyone involved in corpoate for all their years of hard work and sharing this gift with us. Yes we are all blessed to have been given this opportunity, especially so early in its conception.

I have been in the nutrition industry for 20 years. We all are going to do extremly well with Genewize and i dont think many of us realize just how well. There is little stopping us from exceeding our hopes and dreams for our families.
I dont want to come across like mother hen but i have seen personally the FTC crush companies like us like a fly. We have a target on our foreheads and we will be watched with a very keen eye. We must be very careful to spread the word to all of our affiliates to preach the rules and regs of the company. The only thing i see that can stop us is an over zealous affiliate saying or advertising the wrong comments.

#1 We CANNOT ever say Prevention like a comment above, or Cure a disease. Only a DRUG can do this and we have to walk on egg shells when we present this company to new prospects.

#2 please have ALL advertisements and web sites approved by Robert Hoekstra at corporate.

#3 whenever you mention the pay plan at a presentation you MUST mention the IDS.

I see ads all over Google and you tube where guys are saying “we can show you how to make thousnads of dollars a month” and no mention of the Income Disclousue Statement.

Please spread the word to your affiliates, YES spread the word about Genewize to everyone within 3 feet of you, but do it following the Rules and regs of the company.
The attorny’s of Genewize are brilliant people and they know what they are doing. We must comply with some very simple and basic rules.
We are going to be taking a bite out of the Pharmaceutical companies pockets and this will make us a big target by the FTC and if we are not careful we will be shot down from 1000 yards with a lazar guidied bullet to our forheads and be dead before we knew what hit us, if we dont follow simple guidelines.

So sorry, and i do not mean to preach, i am just trying to help us all because i have seen first hand over my 20 years of being a product distributor and manufacturer what the FTC CAN and WILL do to a company that uses the curse word “cure” or “prevent” and also making income claims without mentioning the IDS.

any comments to me directly can go to rick@physicaladdictions.com

Thank you everyone again for allowing us to be a part of this incredible company.
We are all on the road to great success and optimum health. We just need to duplicate ourselves to all of our affiliates and present the Genewize opportunity like WE ARE the CEO’s of the company.
Like they said at the launch; everything we say is like coming out of a CEO’s mouth, and if we spread the word like the CEO’s we have nothing to fear and we will insure our success even beyond our dreams.

Have a great day and GO GENEWIZE!!!!!!!!!!!

    one more comment
we get many great e mails on how to grow our business and get more leads etc. etc..
but i do not see much on company compliance. And this i feel is very important and very simple to follow but it is our “Achilles heel”
i hope someone from corporate reads these comments and we start seeing more info sent out on what we can and more importantly CANNOT say when we present Genewize to a prospect. Getting help all the time about increasing our business is great but we also need to be made aware of what we can and cannot say. If we do not communicate our mission we will shoot ourselves in the foot.

This is an incredible company and i would hate to see all our hard work be done in vain.
The only thing i foresee that can stop us at this point is our own affiliates not following the simple basic rules as stated in my above e mail. The FTC would love to put an end to companies like Genewize

As far as i was told and someone please correct me if i am wrong…we can advertise our domain names and back office page all we want, and any way we see fit
BUT all ads and their CONTENT MUST be approved from corporate.
and i BELIEVE from what i was told we can send people to our landing page where we can have a brief intro to our site and only then take them then to our BACK OFFICE only. We cannot do our own “re invent the wheel” kind of comments or advertisements.
Just send them to our back office, there is enough info in there for anyone’s needs. We also need to make the disclaimer we only affiliates of Genewize and not Genewize corporate…..

Also this new “vault” that is coming out may be allowed to be used also in our ads???…can anyone clarify to me or comment if i am correct on these points or not??

I am not saying i am by NO means an authority on compliance. I am just relaying what little i have been told so far, so please anyone out there correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks and again have a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!

  10. Makes complete sense Tom. Thank you for sharing it with the team. Denise

  11. Thank you Rick for bringing up the compliance issue.I am new to this and the compliance issue is very important to me.
I have asked for a training on what we can do,etc.
I have read the company policies on Internet and print advertising but since I have had only a small amount of experiance with Internet Marketing, social networks, blogs etc…I am very confused about what we are allowed to post etc. I understand and agree that we need to direct everyone to our Genewize website. But what do we say to get them there and where are we allowed to post our links.I now see things all over the internet and we do need to clean it up.

I would love a blog on just this topic.

Scott and Tom,I was at the launch but did not have the opportunity to meet either one of you in person.Thank you so much for everything you do!

We have a great group in Sarasota and we are all helping each other and creating a positve energy regardless of whose org. you are in.

Scotty Kufus came to our meeting last Thursday and we had so many people there,we may need to find a larger place.Good things are happening here!

  12. Jerry Maurer says:

Wow! Now we are talking!! Finally someone who tells it straight. Tom, the last paragraph is more powerful than everything else as it proves your “principles and practices” indeed work. Keep the lessons coming. My team and I appreciate you and your leadership. Thanks again.
